Join us as we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, along with veterans, first responders, and their families, during this three-day campus-wide service event.

From September 11th to September 13th, Marshall students, faculty, and community members can participate in several events, that can be found below. 9/11 Days of Service Schedule 2025

9/11

  • 7:00am – 8:45am: Stair challenge in the football stadium. Participants will climb 2200 steps to symbolize the heroic journey of the firefighters who climbed the towers on 9/11
  • 9:00am – 10:30am: Hero’s pancake breakfast. First responders and post 9/11 veterans will be served a pancake and bacon breakfast.
  • 10:30am – 11am: Tribute walk and unveiling of the Dr. Paul Ambrose memorial bench and plaque, where we will honor MU alumni Dr. Paul Ambrose who was killed in Flight 77 that flew into the Pentagon. 

9/12

  • 8:00am – 10:00am: Campus memorial cleanup. Volunteers will repair and beautify campus-wide war memorials.
  • 9:00am – 11:00am: Emergency Preparedness Fair & CPR Training. MU Athletics will be teaching community members about emergency preparedness as well as CPR training. This will be held in the MSC Flex Space
  • 11:00am – 2:00pm: First Responder Vehicle Wash. Volunteers will wash first responders' vehicles and provide lunch to the first responders. This will be held in front of the Playhouse.

9/13

  • 3:00pm – 6:00pm: Hunger Relief & Care Package Assembly. Volunteers from game day fans, campus staff, and local community members will assemble 5,000 meals and 500 care packs for families in need and first responders. This event will be held outside of the Rec Center.
