The School of Music Vocal Pedagogy Symposium: Strengthening Gender Neutral Spaces Within the Arts Master Class
As part of our commitment to fostering inclusivity within the educational experience, the College of Arts and Media, School of Music, and the Center for Wellness in the Arts will host guest speaker and master vocal pedagogue, Dr. Loraine Sims, to present on the topic, Strengthening Gender Neutral Spaces Within the Arts. Dr. Sims will present sessions on January 28-29, 2025, aimed at equipping students and faculty with appropriate language and techniques to deepen our understanding of gender inclusivity within the classroom.
Through private applied lessons, a vocal masterclass, a lecture presentation, and a panel discussion, Dr. Sims will guide us through concepts of gender-neutral vocal pedagogy. These presentations will be open to all students in the arts, even though much of the discussions will be centered around music and the voice. She will work with a broad spectrum of singers and her presentations will also be open to our MU faculty, students and alumni, local high school students and teachers, private voice and choral directors, and the local community
