On view in the Charles W. & Norma C. Carroll Gallery, June 15 to July 24, 2026.

In celebration of the U.S. 250th anniversary, Legend Has It presents quilts that narrate the history of labor, transportation, commerce, and freedom in Cabell County and nearby areas. Each quilt reflects stories of migration, industry, and resilience, honoring the contributions of women and men who shaped West Virginia's communities and industries through both historical patterns and contemporary designs.

Earlier this year, the School of Art & Design put out a call for quilts and fiber pieces that captured these themes. After reviewing a wide range of submissions, jurors selected nearly 25 works for this summer’s exhibition in the Carroll Gallery.

Legend Has It will be on view in the Charles W. & Norma C. Carroll Gallery from June 15 to July 24, 2026, with a public reception on July 17 from 5–7 p.m., during the Downtown Art Walk.

Rooted in her Appalachian heritage, artist and educator Alyson Annette Eshelman uses needle-felted dolls and introspective poetry to tell an autobiographical story you won't want to miss.

Through large-scale geometric paintings and animation, Lexington-based artist John Harlan Norris attempts to organize the initial disarray of private grief.

By navigating the tension between order and chaos, flatness and texture, these works create a shared space that invites viewers to connect with their own experiences of loss and accept the strangeness that often follows.
